| THEORETICAL FRAMEWORKS |
| LANGUAGE TEACHING AND ACADEMIC SKILLS| _________________________________________________________ Daria's interests are concerned with understanding the relationships between language, culture and society and they draw not only from her academic but also work experience. The opportunity to work for AHRC funded academic research (TLANG), which focuses on multilingual practices of people living in superdiverse communities, contributed to her better understanding of the phenomenon of language in contexts of globalisation, urbanisation and mass-migration, where multilingualism is a norm. Often, it becomes either a a result of successful communication or simply a condition for it. Applying this knowledge to teaching practice may significantly contribute to students's achievement both in language learning and academic progress overall [1]. Research evidence suggests that efforts of engaging students' existing linguistic skills from other linguistic repertoires into learning English, recognising all students' cultural capitals and encouraging maintenance of their mother tongues are the right recipe for their academic success.
